About the conference.

Profile

The conference, itself.

RSC2027 will mark the 50th edition of the Research Students' Conference. This is a milestone made possible by the longest student-led conference in the UK. We are a student-run conference organised for students and early-career mathematicians that moves from place to place each year. Our goal is to create a rich, collaborative and diverse environment that brings together early-career researchers: proving an opportunity to network, explore open problems within the field, and develop as a mathematicians and satisticians.

For this 50th annivesrary, the conference will be held in London with a call for students across the UK and Europe to consider attending. Our committee is made up of fellow PhD students who are excited to share our work and to learn from yours. Each year, the conference has been held in different cities across the UK, passing from university to university. Last year (2026) the 49th edition was hosted in Cambridge. Previously, the RSC was held in Glasgow (2025), Exeter (2024) and Sheffield (2024).

01

Past

We will have a focus on how the progress of statistics and probability theory as a field over the last fifty years; how it has changed and evolved as mathematics and technology have developped.

02

Present

We will look to showcase present work: discussion of open theoretical problems, new techniques for applied questions along with fresh implementations for industrial problems.

03

Future

This conference is an opportunity for students to make new connections with their peers, develop experience presenting work in the field and build themselves as the future leaders in academia and industry.

For 2027

The Committee.

This year the committee is composed of the following PhD students from Imperial College London:

  • William Allfrey
  • Holly Bennett
  • Patrick H. Cahill
  • Maïté Guerin
  • Rishi Kirithiran
  • Skye Purchase
  • Emma Rothwell
  • Ashley Turner

For 2028. The next committee!

Each year a new university will host the RSC which mean that a new group of students will be needed to help organise the conference. Our fifty years of history means we have established relationships with universities and sponsors across the UK. This makes organising a great opportunity.

RSC and the RSS.

The Royal Statistical Society and the RSC have a long history together. Founded almost two-hundred years ago, in 1834, the RSS has long been a hub in the international world of statistics, serving as an import network for statisticians in the UK. As is tradition, prizes awarded at the RSC 2027 will include free registration to the subsequent RSS conference.

RSS 2027 will take place in Newport from 6-9th September 2027. Student are entitled to concessionary rates of membership, including a free e-membership. We encourage our attendees to consider membership in the RSS.
